Soul Surfer The Movie

Posted in Inspiration Nation, Unordinary Extraordinary by Coley Cole on March 24, 2010

Bethany Hamilton was just 13-years-old when a shark bit her arm off while surfing the Hawaiian coasts. Not only her tragedy but her determination to keep on surfing caught the world’s attention and she was never forgotten.

Her memoir, “Soul Surfer: A True Story of Faith, Family and Fighting To Get Back On Board” has sold nearly 1.5 million copies to date. Hamilton’s biopic “Soul Surfer” has just wrapped filming in Hawaii and will hit theaters this Summer.

Her film is described as ” ‘Blue Crush’ meets ‘Rocky’ meets ‘Chariots of Fire’.”  Director of the film Sean McNamera says all viewers can relate to Hamilton’s story, “I think it’s a metaphor for everyone’s life. You get knocked down. Whatever your ‘shark attack’ is or whatever happens to you, you have a shot to get back up. And Bethany shows that not only can you get back up on the board, but you can excel at it.”

Actress Anna Sophia Robb will star as Hamilton. Carrie Underwood, Dennis Quaid and Helen Hunt will lend their supporting actor finesse to the  motivational film.

We can’t wait to see this film.

Update: Soul Surfer will be in theaters Friday, April 8th. Here is a sneak peek:

I’ve seen the movie; and the preview is just as good as the real movie….. warning; shark attack part of the movie is some-what scary to some people.
